Reason for nomination

Mr. Kuo-Wei Wu, born in Taiwan at 1952, Mr. Wu received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Tunghai University.

Later in 1981, he earned a master degree from University of Cincinnati and aother master degree from Department of Computer Science, Columbia University in 1982. He joined as a faculty member in Kentucky Wesleyan College from 1982 to 1984. In 1984, he joined the Benchmarking Group to develop Scientific Library at Cray Research, Inc.(CRI) from 1984 to 1986. Then he left CRI to Multiflow Computer Corporation working on compiler algorithm and Fortran Library at the Compiler Group from 1986 to 1987. And back to CRI to work on Architecture Development, Performance Evaluation, and Competitive Analysis from 1987 to 1990. From 1990 to 1999, He was the Deputy Director of National Center for High Performance Computing (NCHC) in Taiwan. He worked on the strategic planning and networking operation.

During the period, he and other supercomputing pioneers in Asia Pacific Region to initial a series of international supercomputing and internet conference, and organized several important conferences and seminars in AP and Taiwan, such as HPC ASIA'95 (the first supercomputing conference in AP), TANET'96 (an important academic networking conference in Taiwan), INET'98 (the first ationalwide Internet conference in Taiwan). He also worked with Department of Education to develop Taiwan Academic Networking (TANET) from 1990 (one of the pioneer Academic Networking in Asia Pacific). And joined the Director to initiate the National Information Infrastructure Initiative in Taiwan. Mr. Wu began to participate International Internet Activities - APRICOT, APNG, APNIC for TWNIC since 1995, ccTLD, ICANN, CDNC, MDNC, APTLD for TWNIC since 1998.

He began to served as an EC member of APNIC in 1999, and joined Yam Digital Technology as Senior Vice President since 1999. In 2001, he was re-elected by the APNIC members as an EC member for his second term.

And then he joined Acer, Inc. as the vice president to work on OSS product development since 2001 til now.
