Nominator statement

MAEMURA Akinori has a truly balanced understanding of various issues of Internet Governance, IP address policy, NIR (National Internet Registry) operation in Asia Pacific Region, and IPv4 free pool depletion. I believe his energetic contribution and efforts as an APNIC Executive Council (EC) chair for five years out of his seven and a half years experience as an EC member had been extremely valuable to the whole APNIC community.

I am sure that he will continue to make a positive commitment to EC activities for the next difficult 2 years when IPv4 unallocated pool diminishes and IPv6 migration becomes more important.

Akinori began his career in the Internet business in 1994 with designing a nation-wide IP network operated by NEC Corporation, then he worked for France Telecom Group from 2000 to 2006, as the IP Engineering manager for Japan business unit, the IP Product Manager for Asia region and a Research Engineer at Tokyo Laboratories. Throughout recent ten years he actively contributed for the Japanese Internet Community as a founding committee member of JANOG (Japan Network Operators' Group) and as a JPNIC trustee.

In APNIC meetings he has served as a chair of NIR SIG (former NIR open meeting) from 2000 to 2004.

Currently he is working for JPNIC after he left France Telecom Group in 2007. In JPNIC, he takes charge of the IP address management in Japan as a General Manager of JPNIC IP Department.

He is also a Visiting Research Fellow of GLOCOM (Center for Global Communication of International University of Japan) since November 2005.

Nominee statement

I am glad to have another oppotunity this time to run for the APNIC Executive Council.

My first time to be elected to the EC was the very first standalone APNIC meeting at Brisbane in October 2000. Since then, APNIC has grown up to hold triple number of members as the Internet in this region grew. APNIC is now at the most important stage with some significant issues which consist of IPv4 address depletion, on-going discussions on fee structure and overall deliberation for APNIC business operation which needs be sustainable for next, quite differnt age of the Internet in this region.

This would be a big challenge to the APNIC EC, the Secretariat, and APNIC community. I, however, believe that my experience can contribute to APNIC, which has been obtained though seven years in the APNIC EC as well as six years in the management of JPNIC IP Department with inherently similar operation to APNIC as an Internet Registry.
