IRR - Practical use of RPSL and IRR tools

Presentation

APNIC implemented a fully operational Internet Routing Registry on 17 December 2002. The APNIC Routing Registry which is now fully integrated in the existing APNIC Whois Database is available to all APNIC members. This tutorial provides an introduction to the functionality and features of the APNIC Routing Registry. It will give a short description of the APNIC Whois Database and its objects. The RPSL syntax will be discussed in more detail and case studies will be shown to illustrate how to describe various routing policies.

Intended audience

The tutorial is aimed at people who are already familiar with the APNIC Whois Database and want to learn more about the APNIC Routing Registry. A basic understanding of BGP routing and the APNIC Whois Database is assumed.

This tutorial is followed by a more hands-on tutorial provided by Andy Linton which will describe the practical advantages of using an Internet Routing Registry.
