______________________________________________________________________ DRAFT TRANSCRIPT Session: APNIC Member Meeting Date: Friday 3 March 2006 Time: 2.00pm Presentation: Routing SIG report Presenter: Randy Bush ______________________________________________________________________ PAUL WILSON: Randy. I think you're next. Randy is co-chair of the Routing SIG. RANDY BUSH: Randy Bush IIJ and somebody else who Philip Smith has left holding the bag. It was on Wednesday, two sessions. The chairs, the mailing list. Philip has a sparse presentation style. If you wanted to find out about this SIG and its content, it is on the web. You're all reading your laptops anyway. Are no action items of consequence. David Hughes presented on convergence and silent peer failures and what might be done about them and giving you some perspective from two different vendor viewpoints. Geoff did a really fun presentation, as usual, on the state of routing tables and growth and so on and so forth. I did one on why we would like to secure routing and some ways we might go about it. George presented the status of an experiment that's going on with APNIC in which you can participate on certifying allocations in a formal sense. And then I did something that Philip wanted me to do on routing and complexity and why simplicity is better and how the telco philosophy differs from the Internet philosophy. Then there was what unfortunately turned out to be a bit of a sales presentation from Packet Design. And then there was Henk from RIPE did a very good presentation on the difference between the statistics of when we see allocations and the promises for the commitments people make to the RIR - "If you give me an ASN, I promise to use it within six months," and in fact only some percentage of those are done. So Henk did a very good survey between reality and the statistics we see in the databases. There were 65 attendees in the first session and, second session, you know, we were a little bit sloppy about schedule. We started late and finished early with 50 attendees. Questions. This is the big Philip left me holding? PAUL WILSON: This is the bag. You get a bag. RANDY BUSH: Thank you.
