______________________________________________________________________ DRAFT TRANSCRIPT SIG: IX Date: Thursday 2 March 2006 Time: 4.00pm Presentation: Exchange point operational experiences Presenter: Toshinori Ishii ______________________________________________________________________ CHE-HOO CHENG: Our next speaker is from JPNAP. Ishii-san. And please, the next speaker, Gaurab, please be ready. TOSHINORI ISHII: Hello. My name is Toshinori Ishii from JPNAP. I'd like to introduce presentation from JPNAP. First of all, this is my company's information. Internet Multifeed is one of the first Internet data centre companies in Japan. And Multifeed started the Internet Exchange service named JPNAP in 2001. JPNAP is commercial Internet Exchange service in Japan, operated by Internet Multifeed. JPNAP provides several services. It's named JPNAP, JPNAP Osaka and JPNAP6. JPNAP provides several special services and also an aggregation service and traffic engineering service named PeerWatcher, that's a BGP peer traffic graph, and IRR server and NTP server. JPNAP is Internet-based distributed IX service. As I told you, we have JPNAP service in Tokyo and JPNAP also have a service in Osaka Area. Most locations have two sites each and they are interconnected. But Tokyo and Osaka are not connected. This is JPNAP history. We start several JPNAP services - JPNAP, JPNAP Osaka, JPNAP6. And recent topic is JPNAP provides PeerWatcher service and also provides IPv4/IPv6 dual stacking service. I will talk about these topics later. And the traffic volume of JPNAP is very huge. The peak traffic of JPNAP is reached to 105.6 gigabits-per-second peak and JPNAP is one of the most largest IXs in the world. And we have about 80 ports and 40% users are already using 10-gig interface now. From June 2005, JPNAP provides traffic engineering service named PeerWatcher. This service gives you traffic graph of each BGP peers using sFlow technology. Some ISPs operate - some smaller ISPs do not have such function on their routers. So many ISP people are using this service to check BGP peer traffic volume. JPNAP provides this service to 10-gigabit ethernet customers for free of charge. And JPNAP also offer automatic back-up system named Optical Switch. Optical Switch defects IX switch failure and automatically switches to standby IX switch by optical monitoring. JPNAP provides free backup IX port for all users, include firstly users but Optical Switch is only suitable for optical fibre, of course. Recently, JPNAP starts IPv4/v6 dual stack service. It's an optional service and supports all users. It means a 10-gigabit Internet and FE. You can use same service provider by IPv4 JPNAP network. JPNAP also have closed users' meeting every four months. These past topics there (refers to slide) and we have social gathering after the meeting. Traffic volume is still rapidly increased and JPNAP provides these advanced services - PeerWatcher and Optical Switch and JPNAP starts IPv4/v6 dual stack service. And please visit our website. Thank you. Any questions? LOUIS LEE: Are you able to count traffic separately right now? TOSHINORI ISHII: Now not separated but I'm creating such future this spring. I think so. CHE-HOO CHENG: That means, he will be soon.
