Reason for nomination

Maemura Akinori has a truly balanced understanding of various issues of Internet Governance, IP address policy and NIR (National Internet Registry) operation in Asia Pacific Region. I believe his energetic contribution and efforts as an APNIC Executive Council (EC) chair for three years out of his five and a half years experience as an EC member had been extremely valuable to the whole APNIC community.

He is one of the steering committee members of Internet Governance Task Force of Japan (IGTF-J) that worked on comment papers and submitted them to WGIG/WSIS. He also made efforts to share information on Internet Governance discussions with relevant parties in Japan at every possible opportunity such as JPNIC Open Policy Meeting, Japan Network Operators Group (JANOG), and IGTF meeting.

I am sure that he will continue to make a positive commitment to EC activities as well as in the address management area.

Akinori began his career in the Internet business in 1994 with designing a nation-wide IP network operated by NEC Corporation, and actively contributed for the Japanese Internet Community including JANOG and JPNIC members. In APNIC meetings he has served as a chair of NIR SIG (former NIR open meeting) from 2000 to 2004.

Currently he is working for France Telecom Research & Development Tokyo as a Research Engineer. Furthermore, he takes charge of the IP address management in Japan as a member of JPNIC Board of trustees as well as Director of JPNIC IP Department. He has been a Fellow of GLOCOM (Center for Global Communication of International University of Japan) since November 2005.
