22nd APNIC Open Policy Meeting report

APNIC 22, held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from 4-8 September, 2006, was a successful meeting, attracting delegates from around the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

APNIC would like to thank everyone who contributed to APNIC 22, particularly the local host, TWNIC for its considerable efforts in ensuring the success of the meeting.

  1. NRO Number Council election

  2. During the APNIC 22 Annual Member Meeting (AMM) in Kaohsiung on Friday 8 September, 2006, an election was held for one vacant position on the NRO Number Council. Congratulations to the successful candidate, Hyun-Joon Kwon, who has been elected to the NRO Number Council for a three year term.

  3. Meeting decisions

  4. Policy SIG

    Eight policy proposals were discussed. The following proposals reached consensus and were subsequently approved at the APNIC Member Meeting. These proposals are now subject to a "last call" for comments:

    • prop-033: End site assignment policy for IPv6
    • prop-035: IPv6 portable assignment for multihoming
    • prop-038: Modified lame DNS policy proposal
    • prop-041: IPv6 assignment size to critical infrastructure

    The following proposal reached partial consensus. Consensus elements of this proposal were approved at the APNIC Member Meeting and are now subject to a "last call" for comments.

    • prop-039: A proposal to improve reachability of new IANA blocks

    The following proposals did not reach consensus:

    • prop-034: IPv6 portable assignment for end user organisations
    • prop-036: Proposal to allow end sites to receive IPv6 allocations
    • prop-037: Deprecation of email updates for APNIC Registry and whois data

    A working group will be created to further discuss the issues raised in prop-037

    APNIC Member Meeting

    Revisions to both member and non-member account fees were discussed. It was decided to continue discussions on APNIC fee structures in the APNIC fees working group.

  5. Apster - issue 19

  6. Apster is a print and online newsletter for the APNIC community. The nineteenth issue of Apster was released at APNIC 22, and features articles on the Internet in Taiwan, the current security practices of large ISPs, certification of IP resources, and the Eco-APNIC project.
