APNIC Director General Paul Wilson was inducted into the Australian Internet Awards' Hall of Fame, at an awards ceremony on 28 November.

APNIC Director General Paul Wilson was inducted into the Australian Internet Awards' Hall of Fame, at an awards ceremony on 28 November.

The Australian Internet Awards' Hall of Fame honour is awarded at the "at the judges' discretion to an individual for exceptional contribution to the development and/or accessibility of the internet in Australia".

As a founding staff member of one Australia's pioneering ISPs, Pegasus Networks, Paul was involved in introducing thousands to the Internet. Internationally, Paul has since been involved in many network development activities.

In 1992, he trained delegates at the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in online networking. He has worked with the International Development Research Centre on their Pan-Asia Networking project helping to establish the first Internet connections in Mongolia, Cambodia, Maldives, and Bhutan. Paul has also worked on other development projects in Viet Nam, Nepal, Singapore and China.

In 1998, soon after APNIC's move from Tokyo to Brisbane, Paul joined as Director General. He has steered APNIC through a period of rapid expanision and has been closely involved in the transition from IANA to the new ICANN structure.

In entering the Australian Internet Awards' Hall of Fame, Paul joins APNIC Executive Council member Geoff Huston, who was inducted in 1996.
