APNIC sends it warmest congratulations to LACNIC, following the recent decision of ICANN to give provisional approval to LACNIC's application for recognition and transition plan.

APNIC sends it warmest congratulations to LACNIC, following the recent decision of ICANN to give provisional approval to LACNIC's application for recognition and transition plan.

ICANN has also resolved to work with LACNIC and ARIN in making the transition into an operational RIR and to prepare a final application for formal formal recognition.

ICANN passed these resolutions at the recent meetings in Accra, Ghana. The provisional approval was granted in accordance with the Criteria for Establishment of New RIRs, developed by the existing RIRs and ICANN.

Under the transitional plan, LACNIC, with the cooperation of ARIN, will emerge as the RIR for the Latin American and Caribbean region.

APNIC was pleased to join with ARIN and RIPE NCC in providing a letter of support for LACNIC's application for provisional approval. LACNIC representatives have presented at and participated in several APNIC meetings and APNIC looks forward to their ongoing cooperation on the global stage.
