Call for APNIC EC nominations

Call for nominations to the APNIC Executive Council

APNIC Executive Council elections

Open elections to fill vacant positions on the APNIC Executive Council are held during the APNIC Member Meetings.

Members of APNIC may nominate any individual for election to the Executive Council. Details of all nominees are posted on the website and will be distributed at the AMM.

The next EC election will be held on 29 February 2008, at APNIC 25 in Taipei, Taiwan. The members whose positions are up for re-election are Akinori Maemura, Che-Hoo Cheng, and Vinh Ngo.

Nominations opened on Friday, 4 January 2008.

Nominees do not have to be representatives of APNIC members; however, only APNIC members may make nominations. Members are welcome to nominate a representative of their own organisation.

If you are not able to attend the AMM, you can still make your vote count, by appointing a proxy to represent you at the meeting. Proxy forms must be received by 9:00am UTC+8 (Taipei time) on Wednesday, 27 February 2008.

About the Executive Council

Positions on the APNIC Executive Council are currently voluntary and APNIC may not be able to reimburse EC members all expenses associated with EC APNIC Duties. Where possible, however, APNIC will reimburse actual expenses for attendance at APNIC meetings, provided that these fall within budget and cash flow constraints.

If you are interested in nominating an individual, or if you are interested in being nominated as a member of the Executive Council, please read the Duties of the Executive Council carefully.

For more information see the APNIC Executive Council.

How to make a nomination

EC nominations must be received at least two weeks before the Member Meeting. The information included with the nomination is to be in English and should include:

All nominees will be contacted via email to confirm their willingness to serve on the Executive Council. If a nominee is not contactable via email, or does not respond, then their nomination will not be confirmed and they will not be eligible for election to the Executive Council.

All confirmed nominations will be listed on the APNIC web site after they are confirmed. All nominees will have the opportunity to submit a written statement in support of their nomination, for publication on the web site. In addition, others may express support for nominated individuals simply by completing and submitting the nomination form provided above.

Executive Council selection process

The process for selection of the nominee to serve on the Executive Council will involve an open election to be held during the APNIC Member Meeting.

A list of nominations will be published online and details of all nominees will be distributed at the meeting. If representatives of your organisation are unable to attend the meeting, but you would still like your vote to count, then you will be able to use a Proxy Form to appoint another member to carry your vote.

It is not necessary for nominees to attend this meeting in order to be elected, but an opportunity will be provided for nominees who are present to address the meeting prior to the election and make a statement supporting their nomination.
