APNIC at APEC TEL 40

APNIC will be attending the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) 40 conference in Cancun, Mexico from 24 to 30 September as part of its strategic activities to reach out to policy makers and regulators. APNIC became an official APEC observer earlier this year.

APNIC will be attending the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) 40 conference in Cancun, Mexico from 24 to 30 September as part of its strategic activities to reach out to policy makers and regulators. APNIC became an official APEC observer earlier this year.

As result of participating at APEC TEL 39 in April, APNIC became a sponsoring organization for the one day IPv6 workshop "Workshop for IPv6: Facing the Future" to be held at APEC TEL 40 on 24 September. Professor Ma Yan (APNIC EC) of the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications initiated our workshop.

Paul Wilson, APNIC Director General, will deliver a presentation titled "Transforming the Internet: from IPv4 to IPv6". Paul hopes to raise awareness among policy makers and regulators about IPv4 address exhaustion and the importance of a smooth transition to IPv6.

Representatives from ARIN, ICANN, and IANA are also participating as speakers. Various governmental representatives and industry representatives are scheduled to speak at the workshop. This workshop provides an opportunity to achieve cross-economy and cross-industry information exchange regarding IPv6 deployment.

Workshop objectives include:

Miwa Fujii, APNIC IPv6 Program Manager, is providing support to the working group organizing the APEC workshop. Miwa will also present a session entitled "IPv6 101" at the workshop.

The APEC TEL aims to improve telecommunications and information infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region by developing and implementing appropriate telecommunications and information policies, including relevant human resource and development cooperation strategies.
