APNIC at APEC TEL 41

In its capacity as an official APEC Guest, APNIC will attend the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) 41 conference in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan, from 6-12 May 2010.

In its capacity as an official APEC Guest, APNIC will attend the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL) 41 conference in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan, from 6-12 May 2010.

Building on the successful "Workshop for IPv6: Facing the Future", held at APEC TEL 40 in September 2009, APNIC is once again a sponsoring organization for a second IPv6 workshop - "Workshop on IPv6: Transforming the Internet", which will be held on 8 May 2010. This workshop was proposed by the US government and is supported by a number of APEC economies such as Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, and APEC guests ISOC and APNIC.

Miwa Fujii, APNIC Senior IPv6 Program Specialist, will continue to provide support to the Working Group organizers.

The objectives of "Workshop on IPv6: Transforming the Internet" include:

  • Building upon knowledge gained at the APEC TEL 40 workshop
  • Learning about current best practices of IPv6 deployment for governments
  • Observing demonstrations of IPv6 implementation
  • Gaining additional technical information
  • Examining case studies of successful IPv6 implementation
  • Discussing the possibility of a TEL IPv6 action plan for APEC TELMIN 8 in October 2010

These workshops illustrate not only the close working relationship APNIC has with the TEL community, but also the significant contribution APNIC has had with their preparation. It was the success of "Workshop for IPv6: Facing the Future" that resulted in the participants reaching consensus to continue the TEL initiative for the future including an action plan that relevant APEC IT Ministers could endorse at the upcoming TELMIN 8.

APEC TEL aims to improve telecommunications and information structure in the Asia Pacific region by developing and implementing appropriate telecommunications and information policies, including relevant human resource and development cooperation strategies.
