Event Wrap: ITU ACMA International Training Program 2014

APNIC participated in the ITU ACMA International Training Program 2014 from 23 to 25 July in Sydney, Australia. 

The 2014 International Training Program (ITP) is the latest in a series of annual training events organized by the Regional Office of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in support of Asia Pacific telecommunications regulators. Attendees at the event were mostly drawn from governments. The ITU ACMA Regulators' Roundtable, held from 21 to 22 July 2014, preceded the ITP 2014.

This year's ITP focused on building skills and sharing experiences on the regulation of converged telecommunications, information technology and broadcasting industries. APNIC attended to share policy information around IPv4 exhaustion and the deployment of IPv6 addressing in the region with the event delegates.

APNIC activities included:

  • Adam Gosling presented "Government Policy and IPv6 Adoption: Strategic Linkages" outlining the:
    • High-level goals of APNIC policy
    • Policy measures put in place for IPv4 exhaustion
    • Policy measure put in place to encourage IPv6 deployment
    • Recommendation for government wishing to proactively support IPv6 deployment

Adam also took the opportunity to hold discussions with:

  • Representatives of the ITU Regional Office in Bangkok to discuss ongoing engagement and collaborative IPv6 training programs
  • The Australian government Department of Communications representative responsible for ITU and Treaties, to discuss preparatory activities for the ITU Plenipotentiary
  • A representative of the ACMA International Regulatory Section regarding the upcoming ITU Plenipotentiary meeting in Bangkok
