Event Wrap: NetHui 2014

APNIC staff participated in NetHui 2014 from 9 to 11 July 2014 in Auckland, New Zealand. This annual event, hosted by InternetNZ, comprises community-led discussion sessions on a range of Internet issues with participation from all major Internet stakeholder groups – business, technical, government, academic and civil society.  The theme for this year's NetHui was "The next 25 years of the Internet".

NetHui 2014 was attended by approximately 600 participants.  The event featured a high participation rate among delegates and robust discussions on Internet security, privacy, broadband and governance.

APNIC staff attended to share technical knowledge and learn more about the key issues facing the New Zealand Internet community.

APNIC activities included:

• Geoff Huston spoke on DANE (Keys in the DNS) at the New Zealand Internet Technical Architecture conference (InTAC), a conference stream at NetHui, and joined the panel discussion on the Internet and NZ: the next 25 years
• Elly Tawhai participated in the Youth Forum, presenting on Net Neutrality, and was a mentor for the Youth Session. She also met with young leaders earmarked as potential candidates for future APNIC Conference Fellowships
• Craig Ng and Adli Wahid contributed to the Internet Investigation Workshop for Law Enforcement Agencies on 9 July. 
  • The workshop was held with the NZ Domain Name Commission (DNC), in cooperation with APNIC, ICANN, APTLD, the New Zealand Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Of the 45 participants, 28 were from the NZ Police Service.
  • APNIC shared how IP addresses are being managed in the Asia Pacific, demonstrated how to retrieve relevant information from the APNIC Whois Database, and reviewed some case studies to highlight potential challenges in performing investigations.
• Venue site visits and meetings with suppliers for APRICOT 2016 were also held.
